Blooming bougainvilleas at Satok, Kuching.

This picture I took while in Kuching last week.  Today I am in Bintulu and enjoying the fresh air, country peace and nature at my eco-farm.
The above shot shows two cars entering the Satok Road, which is a very popular shopping and banking area in Kuching.  At night there are hundreds of stalls open for eating out early or late.  The flyovers caught my sight with their blooming bougainvilleas.  I am pretty sure this variety is the bougainvillea poultinii species which is generally the preferred choice due to its pink colours , free flowering and  dwarf characteristcs like in this case even though it is dense it is not straggling.

Long and scenic Tanjung Batu Coastal road

This is the view of the Tanjung Batu Coastal road as one drives out of Bintulu town. This week the eugenia trees ( Eugenia polyantha) ( seen at the left of this picture) has started to bloom extensively throughout Bintulu . This flowering season may continue for about another week or so. After that the trees will start to bear small black berry-like fruits much sought after by the local birds. It is through these seeds that these trees are propagated and the germination rate is excellent, meaning almost 99%. The central median is planted with the majestic royal palm ( Roystonea regia) interspersed with colourful bougainvillea varieties.

Weekend shopping at Kuching

I went again to the flower market at Satok ,Kuching yesterday(24/8) purposely to buy more varieties of heliconia to bring back to Bintulu for additions to the Heliconia Valley Project. collection. In the foreground of the picture below are bougainvilleas.

The prices at the flower market here are reasonable and bargainable. You can purchase fertilisers( in small packings), prepared soil mixes, flowering plants of all varieties and species like the orchids, roses, hibiscus, bougainvilleas, fruit trees, palm trees, grasses, aquatic plants etc, etc,.The plants are sold here by small nursery owners, part-time gardeners, garden enthusiasts and freelancers. They need only to pay a token fee to put up their goods at the alloted places on a daily basis.

An interesting array of plants sold on temporary lots allocated by the Kuching City Municipality for a token fee. The Flower Market opens from Saturday afternoon till Sunday afternoon, every weekend.

Later on the way back home, I stopped at this uptrend shopping mall called 'The Spring'. For more pictures please find them here.
